Sustainability

Overview

Ocean transportation is the most efficient and environmentally-friendly method of moving cargo over long distances. However, we still continuously work towards minimising our environmental impact and positively improve our our community. Our approach to sustainability is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We have implemented the required policies and procedures to the ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 50001 (Energy Management), BS OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment) standards. We also hold the “Quality Shipping in the Twenty-First Century” (QUALSHIP 21) certificate from the United States Coast Guard, awarded to less than 10 per cent of ship management firms worldwide.

Environmental

We continuously reduce our environmental footprint by lowering our CO2, NOx and SOx emissions. Majority of our managed vessels are green “eco-ships”, with electronic main engines and considerably lower fuel consumption. We aim to maximise our energy efficiency via slow steaming, weather routing, regular hull cleanings, optimising vessel trim, and fuel-saving devices such as propeller nozzles. We comply with all relevant regulations such as emissions controls, clean ballast water management and responsible disposal of waste water. We take strict precautions against oil or chemical spills and do not tolerate any violation.

Regulatory

We promise to always respect and comply with all relevant national and international laws, regulations, sanctions, anti-corruption and anti-bribery practices. Our employees will never accept or offer gifts, cash, entertainment - where intention is to gain an unfair business advantage - or any other form of unofficial payment to any public or private official. We provide training to our employees and require them to report any entertainment or hospitality expenses they have been offered to make sure these do not constitute a breach of our company policy. Our legal and compliance staff train and monitor our employees to always act with diligence, integrity and highest ethics possible when conducting business.

Safety

The safety of our employees, vessels and cargo is of paramount importance to us. Therefore, we actively evaluate and take precautions against risks at sea such as; piracy, foul-weather, spills, collisions, illness, and operational accidents. We maintain our vessels to the highest standards and regularly train our crew with class-approved drills. Our detailed HSQE and Loss-Prevention procedures and use of Key-Performance-Indicators (KPIs) aim to prevent or minimise such risks. We regularly coordinate vetting inspections with RightShip and SIRE.

Whistleblower

We expect our employees to always comply with the laws and regulations of the countries we are operating in as well as our internal Code of Conduct. When witnessing any form of misconduct or wrong-doing, employees should contact their immediate manager or the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) to raise their concerns with them. If immediate manager or the DPA is unavailable or fails to act in a satisfactory manner, employees are encouraged to contact our Whistleblower Function. Reports can be made anonymously.
